So whats happening?

The Black History Festival, 23rd -25th October - The UK''s Premier Black History Month Event.

Entertainment, exhibitions, side shows - a multi-cultural celebration of diversity,  from 10am to 8pm at Pottersfield Park next to Tower Bridge. It will capture your imagination and interest with activities designed for the whole family.  Kid-zones, educational zones, demonstrations, art and cultural exhibitions, not to mention our main stage!  Covering live music, street dance, theatre and comedy.

We will motivate, educate and entertain you and tempt you with mouth-watering foods, drinks and produce from around the globe.

This is the BIGGEST event of its kind - and the BEST...DON'T MISS IT!

Getting There

Potters Field Park has been chosen as the site for The Black History Festival because of it’s unique positioning, and ease of accessibility.


By train:

London Bridge Station is a major terminus from South East England, including the ports of Dover, Ramsgate and Folkestone.

Thamselink/First Capital Select services from London Bridge station link directly with Kings Cross and Blackfriars stations and many areas to the north of London to Bedford and to the south to Brighton.

Docklands Light Railway (DLR) trains run from Bank and Tower Gateway stations to all areas in east London including Canary Wharf, Greenwich, Docklands, London City Airport and Custom House for Excel exhibition centre.

By tube:

Northern Line (London Bridge & Monument) - direct link to Kings Cross, St Pancras (Eurostar International Station) and Euston stations and to all other Underground lines.

Circle Line (Tower Hill & Monument) - circles central London providing a direct link to Paddington, Victoria, Marylebone and Kings Cross stations and to all other Underground lines.

District Line (Tower Hill & Monument) - direct link to Victoria station and to all points west and east.

Jubilee Line (London Bridge) - the modern extension provides direct links to Waterloo station, the Docklands (including Canary Wharf), Stratford (London Olympics site) in the east end and Bond Street in the west end.

By bus:

London Bridge Bus Station is a major terminus from all directions on the east side of London. Many central London Buses link directly at London Bridge, Monument or Tower Hill.

Official Festival Magazine

We are delighted that a Souvenir Programme is being produced as a guide to the Festival, and to commemorate this milestone event. It will feature articles and interviews relevant to Black History, including contributions from key inspirational figures, and a focus on education, careers and recruitment. It will be available to purchase during the Festival.

Recent News

Ealing, Hammersmith & West London College is proud to be a part of the Black History Festival 2009

Every year Ealing, Hammersmith & West London College welcomes 20,000 students from over 70 different countries, who study courses ranging from ESOL up to Level 7 Management qualifications and from A Levels to Apprenticeships in Carpentry.  The diversity of our students and staff makes learning with us a truly rich and rewarding experience. Celebrating the significant contributions of Black History to learning and skills gives us the opportunity to recognise the importance of this part of our college community.

Untold bring style to the line up

Untold have joined the line up of supporters present at the festival. Untold is a collaboration of newly emerging designers and artists, all have encountered the same barriers when venturing into the big wide world of design- Untold talent yet no platform, this initiative aims to provide the means by which creatives can announce their art to the world. Whether it be fashion, textiles, accessories, art, photography, all will combine to create an aura of inspirational, directional and creative genius that is as yet Untold.

'Hot Flavours' on board to serve up authentic Afro-Caribbean dishes

'
Hot Flavours' has joined the festivities making Afro-Caribbean cusine available. You can expect homemade favourites such as suya rice and peas, curried goat and jerk chicken to name a few. Exceptional authentic dishes to hit the soul will now be an exciting part of this years festival.

CEMVO Hosts 2 FREE Comedy Sessions to Mark 10th Birthday

Two free comedy shows will be hosted by the Council of Ethnic Minority Voluntary Sector Organisations (CEMVO) this October as a celebration of the organisations 10th Anniversary. Felix Dexter and Danny ‘Slim’ Gray will be among the hand picked selection of high calibre performers participating in CEMVO’s free Comedy Sessions.

The comedy shows will form part of the line up at Black History Month’s debut 3 day festival at Potters Field Park near London Bridge. The festival will run from October 23rd -25th, and will offer a range of performances, workshops and demonstrations in art, theatre, fashion, dance, sport, music and more.
